Relative Performance

How a stock's price change compares to a benchmark (typically SPY) over a defined period. A stock up 5% while SPY is up 10% is underperforming. Stocks showing sustained relative outperformance tend to continue outperforming — this is a key stock selection criterion in top-down investing.
